Our Approach

Menopause is personal. Your care should be too.

Everyone's perimenopause and menopause experience is unique. Dr. Rutter carefully reviews your history, listens closely, and develops a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, symptoms, and wellness goals.

The gap in care

There often isn't enough time during a traditional office visit to fully address all of your menopause concerns. Too often, women leave with unanswered questions, feel unheard, or continue to struggle with symptoms. Midlife is also a critical window to protect future health, yet opportunities for prevention and early intervention are often missed. This practice fills that gap with the dedicated attention and expertise needed to help women thrive through the hormone changes of midlife and beyond.

Evidence over noise

Navigating perimenopause and menopause shouldn't be so confusing or overwhelming. Between TikTok trends, Insta reels, podcasts, and endless online advice, it's hard to know what information to trust. By staying current with the latest clinical guidelines and science, Dr. Rutter helps you cut through misinformation and make informed decisions about menopause treatment that is right for you.

About Dr. Rutter

Meet your menopause doctor

“This wasn't just my story. It was the story of so many women.”

Leanne Rutter, MD, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

After 25 years in primary care, with a special interest in women’s health, Dr. Rutter founded RutterMD following her own menopause “aha” moment. From the hormonal rollercoaster of perimenopause to the steady low estrogen state of menopause, estrogen plays a vital role throughout the body and affects far more than just periods and hot flashes. Once she connected a string of her own seemingly unrelated health concerns to menopause, Dr. Rutter became passionate about helping women better understand this transition and access care when needed.

Known for her thoughtful, detail-oriented approach, Dr. Rutter carefully evaluates the many factors that can contribute to symptoms during midlife. Combining both the holistic perspective of her Family Medicine background with specialized training in menopause care, she sees menopause as an opportunity not only to provide symptom relief, but also to offer preventive strategies for long-term health.

Dr. Rutter is a committed advocate for her patients, delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that helps women feel heard, supported, and confident as they move through this inevitable but ultimately empowering phase of life.

FAQ

FAQs

This is a direct-pay practice, so we don't bill insurance, which lets us keep a smaller panel and spend more time with each patient. A superbill can be requested for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We are not currently accepting Medicaid or Medicare patients.

Because of state licensing laws, we can only provide telehealth to patients physically located in Florida at the time of their appointment. All visits are by secure video.

In most cases, hormone testing isn't necessary to diagnose perimenopause or menopause, as we evaluate based on symptoms and menstrual history. If labs are needed in certain situations, we will order them through third-party providers such as Quest. Additional labs to help guide care may be requested to assess thyroid function, metabolic status, iron levels, vitamin levels, or cardiovascular health.

Your treatment plan is individualized based on what is most appropriate after a review of your health history, symptoms, and preferences. The menopause transition can be unpredictable, and your plan may be adjusted over time, as your needs change. Rest assured, there are many options to help support you through this stage of life.

Treatment may include:

  • FDA-approved hormone medications, like bioidentical estradiol and progesterone or synthetic birth control, estrogen, or progestins. Depending on the medication, these come as patches, gels, sprays, pills, or vaginal rings. Transdermal testosterone when indicated.
  • FDA-approved non-hormonal medications for those who cannot take or prefer not to use hormones for symptom control.
  • Evidence-based supplements and vitamin recommendations that may be helpful for symptoms and meet the changing needs of women in midlife.
  • Beyond medication, plan may include lifestyle guidance on things like nutrition, exercise, and sleep; referrals to menopause informed providers who may be helpful (i.e. pelvic floor therapist, nutritionist, or mental health/behavioral health specialists)

No - these services complement your current primary and gynecological care rather than replace it. You may be referred back to your in-person team for exams, urgent issues, or diagnostics that require physical evaluation. We can collaborate with your medical team when needed.

Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a fee. Missed appointments or late cancellations may be charged the full visit fee.

For non-urgent questions and updates, please use the secure patient portal. You will usually receive a same-day response, but please allow up to 2 business days. To protect your privacy and health information, please do not send medical questions, personal health information, or treatment requests through our business email or by text message. Standard email and text messaging are not secure or part of your medical record.

Please note that the patient portal should not be used for urgent or emergency concerns. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.
